What Is Connect the Classroom?
Connect the Classroom is a Department for Education (DfE) initiative that provides fully funded Wi-Fi upgrades to eligible schools across England, improving internet for schools. The aim is to ensure schools meet modern digital standards for wireless connectivity, security, and management, so that teaching and learning can thrive without technical limitations.
The scheme is designed to help schools upgrade to:
Wi-Fi 6 or newer wireless infrastructure
Full-site coverage with high-speed connectivity
Centrally managed and secure networks
Networks that fully meet DfE technical specifications
£25 million in funding has been allocated for the 2025–2026 financial year, supporting hundreds of schools across the UK with this opportunity.

How Can Schools Access Connect the Classroom Funding?
Inclusion in the RISE (Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence) programme
Location within an Education Investment Area or Priority Education Investment Area
A school rating of Good or below by Ofsted
Existing Wi-Fi networks that don’t meet current DfE standards (e.g. lack of Wi-Fi 6, limited coverage, unmanaged networks)
